This is my third
MUN conference experience, I felt even more nervous and confused than the
Tainan MUN conference. All the delegates and observers are the elites from
different cities. All administrative team and admins are the best of the best
from IBSH and every of them have great English abilities. They speak and
communicate in English the whole time. Though there were many mistakes, for
example my name wasn't even on the conference handbook and didn't get a
nameplate, but the procedure still went pretty well. During opening speech I
concentrated on every delegates’ speeches and noticed that every of them spoken
in perfect English accent and skills. It wasn’t really easy to find allies
since every countries all cares about human rights and I was facing the dilemma
of supporting which faction. As for me, I was the delegate of UNICEF, which is
a none government organization and could only present but no voting rights. To
me, delegates in Human Rights Council have mostly the same notions and concepts
which is to solve humanitarian problems, so during debating time we could only
find the tiny leak from our opposition faction. Most of the delegates are from
American schools or Bilingual schools, they were willing to speak up and
express their agreements and disagreements for their own country.
Their skills are
formidable, it was hard to fight back and couldn't always understand what they
are debating about. I only got a chance to speak and it was the time during
opening speech, which was supporting and showing my agreement to my allies.
Then other times during the conference I was actually dazing, because they
didn’t call on us since we were only an organization and we sat at the very
back of the row. Every time I wanted to raise my placard I hesitated, will it
be humiliating if my question is not relevant to the topic or is my statement
clear enough? I wasn’t able to turn in my Draft resolution on time, I finished
it the day before the conference and sent it to our chair, and well….he said I
did a great job! If I ever get a chance to attend another MUN, I will seize the
chance speaking up and won’t wait until the last minute handing in my reports
in. I was really glad to meet people that have great abilities and diplomatic
skills, I learned a lot from them and gain more debating competence. I made a
lot of friends from different schools, some of them said my English accent is
pretty amazing, I felt quite proud about that. Three out of four resolution has
passed, that’s a really great result to all of us. I don’t regret joining HSIN
MUN IX because I have had an unforgettable and precious memory.
